If you have real serious chronic pain, you will face many options regarding your pain medication. These options of pain medications stress a lot of chronic pain patients.

There are many different problems that can cause people to experience chronic pain. Pain management involves a variety of different treatments and techniques, including therapy and some form of medicine.

The trick for doctors and therapists is to find the right medicine and the right combination of treatments. As far as medications go, there are a variety of options available.

One type of pain medicine that is chosen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, also known as an NSAID. They are most commonly recommended to alleviate the ongoing pain that stems from inflammatory conditions.

NSAIDs can be beneficial in the treatment of problems such as arthritis and tendonitis. Due to the potential stomach damage that can occur with long-term repeated use, NSAIDs are usually

only recommended for use when a flare up occurs.

Corticosteroids are a second option for alleviating pain. Similar to NSAIDs, corticosteroids are used to treat inflammatory conditions. These medicines, however, are typically more potent than NSAIDs. They can be in oral form, by prescription, or in an injection form for delivery by the doctor directly into the affected joints or soft tissues lioresal 10 mg. Injections can occur monthly, or as symptoms reappear. Oral forms are recommended for use when inflammation flares occur.

Temporary, but consistently recurring, pain in one area can be reduced with topical anesthetics. These anesthetics are commonly used in the forms of adhesive patches that are applied directly on the skin of the affected area. Topical anesthetics are designed for temporary use, often to lower large amounts of pain during the time it takes for other medicines to take effect.

Some medicines used to treat convulsions may be used for chronic pain management. If your chronic pain is caused by the nerves in your body and their over-sensitivity, as with fibromyalgia, there are several anti-convulsants that can be used. Pregabalin and Gapapentin are common anti-convulsant medicines.

When chronic pain has become so severe or other efforts are not successful, narcotic pain medicine is recommended. Narcotics are very strong and have addictive properties. As the body adjusts higher or more frequent dosages are often required. Chronic pain management using narcotic medicines will be closely monitored. With chronic pain, it is often necessary to have extended or delayed release doses to slowly deliver the pain medicine.

If prescription medicines are not all that desirable for you, different types of herbal pain medicine alternatives are an option. Many herbs contain ingredients that work naturally to reduce pain or the problems that can lead to pain. Willow bark, for example, can reduce inflammation and the capsaicin in chili peppers can help reduce pain from over-sensitive nerves.

Regardless of which method is used for chronic pain management, it is important to discuss all options with your doctor. Learn about all of the risks, side effects, and benefits of each method.
