Pain Management Doctors Tampa researches new technology helping patients.
Physical pain is a reality of life. Pain is a warning sign for us to pay attention to something will happen next. Pain management promotes you to be the manager of your body functions. The latest technology is spinal cord stimulation (SCS). How does this technology work? Does it have any connections with the popular government Stimulus program? Visit the office at www.painmanagementdoctorstampa.com and we can discuss it more.
Pain is always an unpleasant sensory experience. It is called the fifth vital sign. For health care workers, it should mean that pain assessment should be as automatic and as routine as taking a patient’s blood pressure.
There are countless conditions that cause intractable pain. Cancer, physical trauma, arthritis, HIV, and surgery cause pain so great as to warrant management that extends beyond hospital confinement.
A lot of treatment options are now at the disposal of every patient. Depending on the person’s pain threshold and the extent of tissue damage or progression of disease, a single modality or a combination of modalities may be used to counter the pain.

PHARMACOLOGIC INTERVENTION
Pain medications have proven successful in providing analgesia. Still, medications are not without side effects. Typical pain meds are classified as:
• NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) e.g. Ibuprofen - these drugs ease inflammation by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins are responsible for the production of pain sensation
• Narcotic analgesics e.g. morphine - these types of drugs reduce stimuli from sensory nerve endings and increases pain threshold
• Anticonvulsants, anti-depressants - used when opioids are ineffective
• PCA (Patient-controlled analgesia) – uses an electronically-controlled pump to deliver safe and pre-determined amounts of infusions. At times of breakthrough pain or when the patient experiences a spike in pain sensation, the patient may self-administer an extra infusion.

PSYCHOLOGIC MEASURES
A number of measures aimed at targeting the mind to deal and live with pain:
• Relaxation
• Biofeedback
• Cognitive-behavioral therapy
• Hypnosis
• Group therapy
• Behavioral therapy
• Individual therapy
• Guided imagery

CUTANEOUS STIMULATION
It is simply stimulation of the skin. The stimulation of skin that produces non-painful stimuli can block the transmission of pain. Several measures are:
• Massages
• Heat and cold application
• TENS (Trans-cutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) - application of electrodes to the skin that produce a pleasant tingling or vibrating sensation

ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES
Alternative therapies abound and have actually been around for very long, accounting for the large number of its followers. These therapies’ efficacy lies in its thrust towards stress reduction. Some of these therapies include:
• Acupuncture/ Acupressure
• Aromatherapy
Homeopathy
• Music therapy
• Magnetic therapy, etc.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Here come the new technology, that we save for last. Spinal Cord Stimulation, or SCS, is a relatively new treatment option that has been proven to be successful in providing pain relief for chronic back pain sufferers.
Its concept is much like in TENS, as a surgically-implanted device delivers an unpleasant tingling sensation that blocks off pain. Before it is implemented, the patient undergoes a trial period in which a device is implanted for 24 hours or more in order to determine if the patient actually receives pain relief. Also, this option is not for everybody. Patients who have existing pacemakers are not allowed to become candidates for spinal cord stimulation. Patients with pre-existing medical conditions also need to consult with their specialist if they can be ready candidates.
Whatever modality the patient chooses, it is always best to consult with the doctor in order to determine the best, most cost-effective and convenient method for the patient. Self-education will also help one in understanding a patient’s own pain response and threshold. A patient can always be in constant collaboration with his physician, but it is doubly important that the patient knows what triggers his pain and what relieves it in order to trample it over. Please give us a call (727) 548-1111 for your pain relief.

Spine and age in men

Today is about Pain Management, Spine, and mature men, doctors in Tampa.
First if you watch TV, the commercial pretty lady says that 90 percent of men have back spine pain, and probably higher if men smoke more than a few times a day.
As you age, a lot of physiological changes occur in your body. Aside from your skin losing its elasticity, hormones leveling out, your bones also lose their density. The hard bone matrix is replaced by softer connective tissue that results to bones becoming brittle and increasing susceptibility to fractures. This loss in bone mineral density starts before the age of 40 and progressively decreases thereafter. Men are more likely to develop spinal problems as they are generally more physical than women, doing a lot of heavy work and strenuous activities.
Musculoskeletal problems secondary to aging, such as spinal fracture can have effects on you socioeconomically and psychologically. Visits to the doctor and hospital confinement can be very costly, and as the pain can be incapacitating, it can lead to loss of productivity and ultimately affect your quality of life.
Common spinal problems to afflict men in the older age group are the following:
• Osteoarthritis of the spine
• Intervertebral disc problems
• Spinal stenosis
• Osteoporotic vertebral structures, etc.

Your physician, as always, will perform physical examination in order to determine the health of your spine. He will assess your balance and motor coordination alongside with any presence of limitations in movement, rigidity, spasticity and flaccidity.
In treating spinal problems, the physician will have to zero in on what is causing your spinal problems. Is it trauma? If it is, he will have to order physical therapy, use traction devices, and ask you to perform regular exercise. The pain will be treated with the mainstays such as non-steroidal analgesics or opioid analgesics.
Is it due to osteoporosis? Pain meds will be prescribed, but more than that, lifestyle changes and diet modification will be necessary. Cessation of smoking, reduction in caffeine and alcohol intake will help in stopping further demineralization.
Age-related changes in the spine will also call for a high-calcium and low-phosphorus diet. As we all know, calcium strengthens the bones. Dietary calcium comes in dairy products, sardines and dark green vegetables. However, foods high in phosphorus like re meat, cola and processed foods should be avoided.
Weight-bearing exercise is encouraged to strengthen the muscles and the bones, as well as to mobilize serum calcium from the blood and into the bones. Inactivity for a prolonged period of time, as it can cause increased serum calcium (hypercalcemia) that can lead to other medical problems. At PainManagementDoctorsTampa.com, the doctor will need to check your issue and verifies your diagnoses with your pain congruency.
Your spine is the ultimate structure of your body, take care of it when you are in an early age, pay attention to its symptoms in your life. Call us at 727 548-1111 for your next visit.

Arthritis Pain and Maturing Ladies

How do you know that you have arthritis Pain? One of the leading causes of morbidity (illness) and mortality in maturing ladies has been arthritis. Arthriits can be so debilitating and limiting that it has now become a public health concern. Recently, several studies have been conducted to determine the risk factors that increases the chances of a woman to have this disease.
In one study, it has been found out that existing morbidities that call for the use of cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as Lipitor, increased the risks for developing arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis has been found to be associated with an increasing mortality with women.
Can your body more accurate than your TV weather? Don’t answer.
Arthritis is typically seen with inflammation of the joints of the hands, wrists and fingers. It is now more concerning than the effects of post-menopausal osteoporosis on women, as this condition can be managed with hormone replacement therapy.
Arthritis symptoms are typically joint pain and swelling, tenderness and warmth around the joint, joint rigidity and limited range of motion in the affected area. There will be a pain that is usually described as burning. Also, there will be crepitating, or the cracking of the joints when it is moved. Rheumatoid arthritis, among the other types, has the systemic effect and most debilitating. The lining of internal organs can also be affected aside from the joints. The other kind of arthritis, osteoarthritis, primarily affects the joints. There are still other types of arthritis conditions, but among women, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis strike the most.
Your doctor will diagnose your condition according to the type of pain you feel, where you feel it and what time of day the pain usually spikes. Your doctor will ask you describe these, and upon physical examination, he will look for the hallmark signs of arthritis such as the Heberden?s nodes, bony enlargements on the finger joints that cause compression and pain. At PainManagementDoctorsTampa office, our doctor will discuss with you your benefits of your medicine for severe cases.
Prevention is always better than cure, and to prevent this type of disease, aging women should undergo yearly consultations with her doctor, exercise regularly, eat healthy and just essentially keep the body active. Hip fractures, according to a study, predispose a woman to having arthritis of some sort to develop later on in life, and proactive measures should be taken to prevent any kind of trauma. Daily exercise can help strengthen the bones and prevent fractures and dislocations.
In treating arthritis, pain medications such as NSAIDS, opioid analgesics such as morphine or steroids will provide relief. As such, these medications may have altered pharmacokinetics in the older patient such as slower absorption time. Monthly consultation with your physician will be needed in order to make any adjustment in medication doses and frequency.
The arthritis patient will benefit from patient education regarding lifestyle modification. She will have to perform regular exercise, usually weight-bearing and low-impact to strengthen her bones. She will also have to consult with a physical therapist to improve on her coordination and balance. She will need to know her medications and the side-effects, also the kind of pain that can strike her at any time. Just the knowledge of these things will help her feel in control of it and take proactive measures in her life. Support from family is very important as well, as the woman may also have to have someone assist her in everyday activities. The pain may come in bouts so she will need someone at her call as the pain can be severely limiting.
If you know about Arthritis Pain, Pain Management Doctors Tampa may help in long term. 727 548-1111 www.painmanagementdoctortampa.com

You need to check out this study at Keele University about swearing helps reducing pain.
When people said Pain Management is a vast complex field, they are not kidding, and there are many alternative Pain Management methods as there are many types of pains.
I heard a few alternative treatments such as: straight medical medicine, mind-body medicine ( imagery guide, visualization and meditation), energy healing ( chiGong, acupuncture, Chakra..), movement-based therapies ( yoga, exercise, diet without red meat, Feldenkrais…).
Now, swearing can lessen pain, and it is officially studied at Keele University, this is my first method, zero-cost alternative treatment.
You can search it, to believe it. this is as simple as it can be.
If anybody tries this method, and tell me the results, it should work for you too. Don’t abuse it, only use once a day.
Please consult with your physician for professional advices.

Sciatica: Pain Management Acute or Chronic

Pain Management subsets:
Sciatic Pain (also sometimes referred to Lower Back Pain)
I had sciatic pain once, and I could not move my legs. I freaked out.
Hospital visits due to lower back pains are only secondary to respiratory illness. Most low back pain is caused by anyone of a large number of musculoskeletal problems, including acute lumbosacral strain, unstable lumbosacral ligaments and weak muscles, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis of the spine, intervertebral disk problems, and unequal leg length.
At PainManagementdoctorsTampa.com, we do treat Sciatic Pain regularly.
In addition obesity, stress and occasional depression may contribute to low back pain. Back pain due to musculoskeletal disturbances usually is aggravated by activity, whereas pain due to other conditions are not. Patient with low back pain undergoing pain therapy with drugs may develop alcohol or drug dependency.

Manifestations (signs and symptoms)

Here are early sign which indicate we might be suffering from back pains:
* Reports of either acute back pain or chronic back pain (lasting for more than 3 months without improvement).
* Fatigue when walking
* Radiating pain, pain moving from the back going to the leg
* Change in gait (walking movement)
* Reduction in range in motion (twisting from side to side, reflexes)
* Changes in leg length and leg motor strength

Goal of medical Management

The major goals for the person suffering from this condition is to immediately relieve the pain, improve range of motion (improve mobility), to reduce fatigue by introducing proper body mechanics, and weight reduction to reduce weight bearing stress.

How we can Relieve Pain
Aside from taking in analgesics or pain relieving drugs, there are many ways where we can relieve pain independently.

* Take bed rests, it relieves the weight bearing pressure from your back and legs. Place your back on the bed with your legs stretched is the best position.
* Watching TV, or thinking of happy memories distracts us from the pain being experienced (guided imagery).
* Proper breathing exercises, scientific research and studies shows that breathing techniques in yoga help the mind focus and relax muscle movements.
* Practicing good posture also promotes proper distribution of weight support for the muscles therefore reducing stress points.
* An ergonomic chair or one that can properly support your back helps reduce stress on the back and promotes proper muscle relaxation.
* Avoid activities that involves constant vibrations, when signs of pain are experienced, like riding a car on a bumpy road or walking and running on rough surfaces, stop immediately and get a support to relieve tension on your muscles.

Analgesics are always an effective way of reducing pain. Analgesics like all other drugs may cause dependency, this is difference for each individual. With continued use a 10mg anesthetic will not work for chronic pain (more than 3 months). Greater amounts must be introduced in order for them to effective.

With health care costs continuing to rocket, finding other methods or facilities may be help reducing costs. Learn to ask key questions at the clinics to probe for helpful staff.
Sciatica pain is treatable and it is the easy pain to deal with other pains may take longer to treat or we need to manage to live our normal life. At our PainManagementDoctorsTampa office, our professional staff can help you control your pain in an economic way.

Pain Management Doctors Tampa tries to have UDS

As of yesterday, Pain Management Doctors Tampa has signed a contract to have UDS in house. Our phone number is 727 548-1111. We bought a month supply of UDS tests; and management has decided that the price for the test is $25.00 per test. That is cheaper than a lot of other medical offices. We survey the are and the lowest in the area is $50, and you get a report fax back to us. The UDS test is a ten panel. Pain Management Doctors Tampa highly recommends that new patients are tested and others are tested randomly to be effective. This is just a suggestion. Any question should be directed to your pain physician. This week, every TV station broadcasts about Pain Management issue due to MJ’s death. Anybody can be an expert in Pain Management this week, and if you are lucky, you have a book ready to be published about Pain and its associated topics. You will be at the right place and at the right time, you will have major network TV interview and your book will make you millions dollars. It is ironic that reporters need some news to get eye balls on TV and a author can become pain expert without any medical placebo study. It is sad!!!
That is the reason, you need not believe in TV, for professional you need to consult your physician.
About Pain Management Doctors Tampa, our office is located at 6251 Park Blvd #1, Pinellas Park, FL and our phone 727 548-1111.

Today, we restructure our Pain Management Doctors Tampa site.

First, we name the categories properly, there is no more none, and uncategory.

We try to give it meaningful name.

Our visitors should be able to differentiate our category and our blog posts.

Welcome everyone to our new Pain Management Doctors Tampa site.

I think the first things all pts need to concern with is “Getting to know your pain management doctors”

Three things to know about your pain management doctors.

3.  Real doctor –Is he or she  a real medical doctor?

- It is hard to believe that doctor can be impersonated, but all of us watch a few TV scenes that had a few doctors without real medical degree.

2. Compassionate — Is he or she understand your issue?

- We would like to have a doctor that listen to us instead of tells us all the wrong things about us.  Doctor has a good listeningin skill.   We would like to meet a good experienced doctor who has a lot of compassions about our pain which destroy our normal life.  Doctor can communicate with us about our pain and helps us control our pain.

3.  Prescriptions — Will the doctor prescribe what we need.

- We would like the doctor to prescribe the drugs that we need, not what everybody wants,  We  would like the doctor to follow up with his patients.

To see the results month after month.

Best of luck to  you all
